Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any consultation fees if I contact you with questions?
No. Asking questions prior to choosing us to assist you with your forestry needs is encouraged. In fact, we will even provide you with an initial free inspection of your timberland without obligating you in any way.
What are your fees for services?
There is no straightforward answer to this question, and the answer usually starts out as, “it depends.” There are variables that have to be taken into consideration prior to establishing a fee for our services. Generally, these factors include the acreage of timber and the timber types for most any timber management service provided. The quality and quantity of timber, the type of harvest, the market area, accessibility, and any environmental regulation considerations (i.e.; endangered species, stream management zones, etc.) must also come into the equation for the administration of timber sales. This is one of the reasons we offer landowners an initial, no obligation consultation and inspection free of charge. Following an interview and inspection we are better able to provide you with a fair fee for the services you need.
Some of our services, a forest management plan or timber appraisal for example, would be a set, one-time fee following completion. Maintenance fees, such as routine boundary line maintenance, are generally calculated on a per-foot basis. The fee for administering most timber sales is a commission (a percentage of the gross revenue from sale). The commission generally ranges from 6% to 10% depending on the variables noted above.
How many acres do I need in order to sell timber? Do I need a forester’s assistance with a small tract?
The answer to the first question depends on the quality and quantity of the timber, the market area the stand is located in, availability and interest of local loggers, and other factors. Due to these variables alone, the answer to the second question is, yes, contacting a forester would be the initial step regardless of tract size.
